Dal Pakwan – It’s Breakfast Time

Sindhi cuisine  refers to the native cuisine of the Sindhi people from Sindh now in Pakisthan . The daily food in most Sindhi households consists of Wheat -based flat-bread (Phulkas or Rotis ) and rice accompanied by two dishes, one gravy  and one dry. Today, Sindhi food is eaten in many countries including India , where a sizeable number of Hindu Sindhis migrated following the partition in 1947.

So This  month we would look inside a Sindhi Kitchen … the flavors / the spices / the aromas … Tasted this  beautiful  dish when I visited  Agra and Food enthusiast like me  suggested me I should visit  Sindhi bazar  believe me it was worth … Wow ! the place smells  the PROVINCE OF SINDH which is in Pakisthan now … Small Sindh in the Heart of TAJ . Pakwan daal is tasty Sindhi snack and is spicy. It is a popular breakfast dish in many Sindhi households

Ingredients:

 

For making daal

1 Cup Chana Dal (Soaked for 6 hrs)
2 tblsp Tamarind Chutney
1/2 tsp Garam Masala
1/2 tsp Red chilly powder
1/2 tsp Cumin Powder
1/2 tsp Amchur Powder
1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
Salt to taste
2 tblsp Desi Ghee

For making pakwan
2 Cup Refined Flour (Maida)
1/2 tsp Salt
2 tblsp Desi Ghee
Water to knead the dough ( use less water , and more it would be crispy )
Ghee for frying

 

How to make pakwan dal:

  • Boil the soaked dal in 3 cups water by adding salt and turmeric powder.Boil it till tender.
  • Add tamarind chutney. Mix well.
  • Before serving pour the hot daal in a serving dish and sprinkle all masala powders on top.
  • Heat desi ghee in a pan and pour it over the daal and masalas.
  • To make the pakwan mix salt and ghee in the refined flour.Knead a soft dough and try to spread till its like papad but not papad …
  • Divide in small equal balls and roll into thin pooris or bhaturas
  • .

  • Deep fry till brown.
